ACFM finds new home for 2023
The Adams County Farmers Market is moving locations because of planned construction on its current site.

The Adams County Farmers Market (ACFM) recently finalized plans to move to the Gettysburg Recreation Park in 2023 following a series of productive discussions with the Gettysburg Area Recreation Authority (GARA), the organization that operates the park.
After an exhaustive review process, the ACFM determined the park to be the best fit for a new vibrant, community-focused location, according to a press release issued by the organization. The market will be located in the parking lot in front of the Sterner Building, directly off Long Lane.
The farmers market is moving from its current location on Stratton Street because of a planned commercial development project which is anticipated to begin within a year’s time.
Ellen Dayhoff, co-chair of the farmers market's site development committee, explained in the release that the group developed a point-measuring system "based on the needs of the market" and "compared over 15 different locations ... to determine which location would score the highest."
Gettysburg Recreation Park offers a wide variety of advantages, including plenty of free parking, newly remodeled public restrooms, ample space for farmers market events, and shady areas for customers to relax, according to ACFM.
Other factors contributed to organizers selecting the park as its future operating spot. The location is convenient to popular tourist attractions on Steinwehr Avenue and surrounded by residential neighborhoods, providing easy access for residents, the press release added. It also scored high on a survey offered to marketgoers this year.
"GARA is excited for the arrival of the farmers market to the park,” said Erin Peddigree, executive director of Gettysburg Recreation Park, via the release.
“This will be an opportunity for those in the area to see the park who may not know that there is a community park in Gettysburg, and the same for those who will be able to experience the farmers market who may not have had the chance before."
No start date has been determined for the 2023 season. The final Saturday for the 2022 season will be October 29. A pop-up holiday market will take place on December 3rd.
